چکیده

Daily use of mouthwash is generally recommended to control dental plaque development and limit further adhesion oral bacteria. To this purpose, Chlorhexidine di-gluconate (CHG)-containing products are still the most used antiseptic in health. The aim study was compare antimicrobial antibiofilm activity three different commercial formulations containing CHG at same concentration (0.2%) on main etiological agent plaque, Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans). Liquid Chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) confirm formulations. Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) Bactericidal (MBC) were measured evaluate mouthwashes planktonic cells. biofilm prevention (BPC) formulation towards mature investigated. Both total cell titer viability S. pregrown biofilms evaluated after treatment time points concentrations, using Crystal Violet (CV) tetrazolium dye assay (MTT). Shapiro–Wilk Levene tests normality overall homogeneity datasets, respectively. chi-square test, Fischer’s exact test Student’s t-test inhibitory capacity CV MTT assays. Results showed that even though only slight differences MIC MBC values found bacteria, effect exhibited wide variation when treated. In addition, results discussed based compositions formulations, suggesting herbal extracts, present may not always have a beneficial effect, especially concerned.

Comparison of Antibacterial Effect of Nanosilver and Chlorhexidine Mouthwash on Streptococcus Sanguis (in vitro)

Abstract   Background and Aim: Streptococcus sanguis is known one of the initiating agents of microbial plaque formation. In addition to the physical control of the microbial plaque, the use of mouthwashes as a chemical method to kill microorganisms is effective. Although chlorhexidine is the gold standard for the elimination of oral microorganisms, the unpleasant side effects of its long-term...
